ORF AUSTRIA

Programme/Contribution: Österreich heute - Stadtwerkstatt
Broadcast date: 05.12.1983, Duration (in min.): 3'20“

Content: The self-governing STWST has been in existence since 1980 and has established itself in a former electrical company. In the near future the building is to be demolished and rebuilt. The STWST-makers have organised more than 350 events so far. The programme ranges from pantomime, theatre, film and discussions to concerts. In 1984 the STWST's lease expires and the City of Linz buys the land and the building. In the future the Linz city fathers thought of bringing together the alternative cultural scenes. Vice-BGM Schanovsky announced in an interview in the harbour area the so-called “Posthof” as an alternative cultural scene. A cooperation with the newly built Posthof, which is to be managed by municipal institutions, is rejected by the Stadtwerkstatt people who are successful on their own.

Broadcast/Contribution: X- Large - Stadtwerkstatt in Linz
Broadcast date: 29.01.1989, Duration (in min.): 5'48”.

Content: The Stadtwerkstatt Linz is defined by its friends and patrons as an “attempt to create a unity of art, life and work”. For Environment Councillor Ackerl it is “an expression of unconventional Upper Austrian and Linz way of life”. Now an integral part of the cultural scene in the provincial capital, the Stadtwerkstatt is worried about its future because the building in which the institution is currently located is to be demolished in the autumn.

Programme/Contribution: KUNST-STÜCKE - Myth of Information
Broadcast date: 27.06.1995, Duration (in min.): 61'15“

Content: 50 years ago, American and Russian soldiers faced each other as occupiers on the Nibelungen Bridge in Linz. In the live spectacle of Stadtwerkstatt-TV, veterans from back then meet each other on the bridge without leaving Moscow and New York, telepräsent. Confrontation of the past and vision of the future as a major media event. Documentation of a live spectacle

Broadcast/Contribution: Kunst-Stücke: Television in the Hands of Artists
Broadcast date: 01.10.1996, Duration (in min.): 59'19”.

Content: An investigation into the artistic treatment of the medium of television. Stadtwerkstatt-TV started out in 1987 with the idea that every receiver could also be a transmitter. At that time, this was still a distant vision; today we are in a superinfo datahighway frenzy.

Broadcast/Contribution: Treffpunkt Kultur: Linz - SZENE LINZ
Broadcast date: 19.05.2003, Duration (in min.): 7'25“

Content: A nocturnal walk through night-time Linz and its independent theatre, music and art groups. In its “Cultural Development Plan” of 2000, Linz formulated a clear commitment to the “independent scene”. The result is a close-meshed network between artist groups and associations that exchange ideas and influence each other. The hip-hop group “Texta” leads the ORF team, among others, to the artists' group “Time's Up” in the “Posthof” and in the “Stadtwerkstatt”, where the “Freie-Radio-Linz” (Radio FRO) is also based.
